Georgia Tech Graduate Application Process
Getting Started
- Georgia Tech’s application is hosted by CollegeNet and you will be entering your information on their secure server. You will be asked to create a user ID and password. Please write down your user ID and password for future use. You do not need to complete the entire application at one sitting. You may begin the application, save it, and return to it at a later time using your user id and password.
Data Validation
- DO NOT CLICK ON “SUBMIT” UNTIL YOU HAVE RECHECKED YOUR DATA THROUGH THE VALIDATION PROCESS. Once you have completed the online application, you will be asked to validate the data you have entered. You should carefully review your answers and make certain ALL entries are correct . Once you use the “SUBMIT” option, you cannot make changes to your application.
Letters of Reference/Recommendation
- Letters of recommendation are handled via an online recommendation system which is part of our online application. On page one of the application you will be asked for the following information:
- Name of three recommenders
- Institute or Business Affiliation of each recommender
- E-mail address of each recommender
- Waiver - you must choose whether or not to wave your right to review the recommendations. Most people choose "Yes" to waive their right of review. You should discuss this with your recommender before you answer this question. Once you have submitted your application, you cannot change this decision. Your choice will be transmitted to the recommender in the instructional email he/she will receive.
- As soon as you submit your online application, an email will be sent to your respondents. This email will inform your respondents how to complete the online letter of recommendation. To ensure receipt of this email, please inform each respondent about this email prior to the submission of your application.
- If you or your respondent have technical difficulty with the online letter of recommendation system, please contact CollegeNet directly at the following email address: help@applyweb.com or you may call CollegeNet at 503-973-5213. It may be necessary to provide CollegeNet with your user id and/or the name of the applicant or respondent.
Submitting the Application & Paying the Application Fee
- After you are satisfied that ALL information in your application is correct, you may SUBMIT your application. You will be asked to provide accurate credit card information in order to pay your application fee of $50. This application fee must be paid online and is non-refundable. Georgia Tech will not receive your application until the fee is paid online. Do not mail checks, money orders, or other forms of payment to Georgia Tech. They will be returned and we will not receive your application from CollegeNet. If you have technical difficulty getting your payment to be accepted by the CollegeNet system, please send an e-mail to help@applyweb.com giving them your user ID and describing your problem. They will be able to assist you with your problem. Persons with a U.S. bank account may also choose the e-check method of payment. REMEMBER – once you SUBMIT, you cannot change or edit your application in any way. After you successfully submit your application, a page will appear on your screen acknowledging that your application has been successfully submitted. It will contain your CollegeNet Transaction ID. You should print this page – it is your receipt - and send a copy along with your Supporting Documents (see Mailing Instructions).

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Many questions are answered in our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section. Before you contact Graduate Admissions, PLEASE check the FAQ's. This may save you considerable time and will help speed the processing of your application.
When will Georgia Tech Receive Your Application?
- After you have completed the online application, validated your data, and paid your application fee, your application and all uploaded documents will be forwarded to Georgia Tech within 24 hours. Applications received from CollegeNet during normal business hours (Monday through Friday – Pacific Time Zone) are entered into the applicant database the same day. Applications submitted on Saturday or Sunday (Pacific Time Zone) will be received by Georgia Tech the following Monday.
Checking The Status Of Your Application
- How to Log in to status checking
- A few days after you apply, you will receive an email with instructions for activating your GT Account. Follow these instructions and you will have access to email and the Buzzport site where you will find Status Checking.
- Once your application is received and added to our student database, you will be able to see the information we have recorded about you, when your supporting documents have been received, when your test scores have been received from ETS and when a final decision regarding admission has been made. It will take approximately four weeks for all documents to be noted in Status Checking. PLEASE BE PATIENT. PLEASE DO NOT TELEPHONE OUR OFFICE OR SEND E-MAILS INQUIRING ABOUT THE STATUS OF YOUR APPLICATION. This will only slow the processing of your application. However, if you find erroneous information on Status Checking, please complete the request for corrections form and submit it.
Applying To More Than One Program
- Georgia Tech allows you to apply to two programs per semester. However, you must use two separate applications. All applications at Georgia Tech are customized to meet the needs of each specific program and are, therefore, not interchangeable between programs. If you wish to apply to two programs, you may do so by logging back into your application using the password and id you created and edit the term and degree objective on page one to reflect your new choice of program. Save page one. Then, proceed to page four where you will answer the application questions for the new degree objective you chose on page one. You will then submit and pay the application fee for the second application.
Technical Difficulties
- If you have technical difficulties while completing your application or letters of recommendation, you should send an e-mail to help@applyweb.com and include your User ID in the e-mail. The technicians at CollegeNet will be able to look at your application or letters of recommendation and help clear the problem. Your recommender should do this as well if they encounter any problems when submitting the recommendation.
